The glass was dusty and there were spiders (or spider remnants) in the tool box, but I pulled out my stained glass stash and picked up on the project I’d started… last year. I had the pieces cut from the pattern, but the pattern itself was gone. Damn spiders, I’m sure. Scott and I winged it and today I taped the patterns to glass and started cutting. Next up is grinding the pieces to exact fit, taking off the pattern paper, then wrapping each piece in copper foil. Assemble. “Paint” with flux, then solder. Wash with dish soap and remove excess solder. Attach chain. Box. Mail to my Ma and Pa. Then I start on my Green Man piece and a few gift items – the holidays are coming up FAST.
I have four significant cuts on my hand because I was a tad too quick or careless in grabbing the edges: one deep gash on my left thumb, one on the crease of my right index finger, and two that are already closed and healing. I’ll spare you the visuals of my fingers.
Here’s the lovely piece in progress. The paper rose (sing it, Marie!) is top, center. The stem and two leaves are the green glass. The outer edges are textured glass, and I stacked them in a precarious pile on the edge of the table. top, left of center. Oh, the glass holding the blue glass on the floor is for “scraps” which may make it into a mosaic (once I take a class on how to do that).

Oh mi gosh, I’ve not done glass since Psam was a little girl (psst she’s got a six year old now) But I still have my glass and materials and tools. I think about it all the time, when the rain hits I may have to make a dive back into glass. Thanks Sid

Lovely project! It looks like a brilliant way to spend an afternoon! I took a jewelry making class a few years ago with a friend and it was such a hoot. I was absolutely incompetent when it came to soldering. I can’t wait to see your finished rose stained-glass hanging.

I’m glad to see you’ve gotten back to something you really enjoy. I’m with hm-uk, I can’t wait to see the finished project.

If it’s half a brilliant as your previous projects, it will be celestial! Will there be progress reports?

Wow, love it!
I’m a tad jealous that you’re in the bay area…before I lost my mind and decided to move to Utah, I was in Walnut Creek and Oakland before that. I keep telling myself that this is short term…I really miss the bay!

I appreciate art of all genres, but ask me to create it and I can cut off all thumbs!! I hope you heal soon! How’s you dad taking the news? My thoughts are with you and Scott and your dad!!
